Prima Queen | London
Prima Queen enthral me.
Having first seen them live as a two piece in Bristol’s haughty St Stephen’s church in early 2020 (a Sofar Sounds performance you can watch here), the lockdown has seen the group grow in both size and stature. Now signed to Nice Swan Recordings, Prima Queen’s post-pandemic return saw them take to the stage as a 7-piece ensemble for Green Man Festival with a host of tasty new tracks.
Their latest release, Chew My Cheeks, is peppered with delicate and precise guitar riffs and harmonies so close they could come from the same breath. Immediately I’m transported to a bright stage then a dark smoking area. Inspired by idealising people that are out of reach, the track effectively describes the delicious escapism that is borne from being overly obsessed with someone, with whom a relationship is impossible.
Produced by The Big Moon, it is no surprise that Chew My Cheeks is such a well polished success. “It was incredible being able to work with The Big Moon,” says the band. “They really understood our vision for the song and we were so impressed with how they were able to bring it to life."
