Vanessa Gimenez | Bristol
Expertly produced, Make It Rain perfectly captures the anticipation and excitement that comes at the brink of starting something new.
Since the break-up of Swimming Girls in 2019, band leader Vanessa Gimenez has been making the transition to soloist with surprising ease. The first song written for the project, Make It Rain is a beautiful, synth-drenched track that keeps Gimenez’s vocals front and centre. The song perfectly showcases the expert control Gimenez has over her vocals as well as her ability to conjure dreamy, emotive imagery through softly sung yet confident pop hooks. “To me it’s about retaining that childlike sensibility that is full of hope and dreams,” explains Gimenez, “A mindset that a lot of people lose once they grow older."
Having previously played major UK festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, and Live At Leeds, as well as supporting Pale Waves on their UK tour, Gimenez is a dazzling musician to see live. They have the ability to keep an audience enthralled whether playing to a dozen people or thousands. With a debut EP following later this year, she’s landed right at the top of our One To Watch list.
